The version of Michelangelo’s story that I return to is not historically accurate; it’s an awkward mutt of a thing, part Irving Stone, part Giorgio Vasari, and part sentimental airbrushing by time and my affection for Ninja Turtles. But over the years, I’ve fallen in love with my version of the story, distorted though it is, because I feel a sort of camaraderie with Mike that has broken my heart and healed my spirit.
